Epicentre is offshore in the Hyuganada Sea, approximately 20 km SSE of Miyazaki and 230 km SSE of Fukuoka, Kyushu and 880 km SW of the capital, Tokyo. At least 16 people injured and several buildings destroyed or damaged in Miyazaki, Kagoshima and Kumamoto. A tsunami was generated with maximum recorded wave heights of 50 cm at Miyazaki.
