Epicentre is around 40 km northwest of Herat, the third largest city in Afghanistan. Latest reports indicate that over 1,400 people have been killed,over 2,100 others have been injured and more than 21,500 houses have been destroyed and around 38,000 buildings destroyed. The majority of the damage and the casualties occurred in Herat province.
